About Us
Applecart is the leading technology company that C-suites rely on to reach business-critical decision makers. The most important decisions are made by the hardest people to reach and influence. Historically, C-suite leaders have lacked the tools to reach the stakeholders who matter most to their business. The C-suites of hundreds of Fortune 500 companies, major agencies, trade associations, nonprofits, and governments use Applecart to put their best content in front of business-critical decision makers and those they trust — from policymakers and investors to CEOs, key employees, members of the media and more. Decision makers are informed by what they read, learn from advisors, hear from colleagues, and discuss with family and friends. To break through to them, you must reach them through the only channel that really moves them: those they know and trust. Applecart’s platform uses publicly available data to map billions of social relationships between nearly every American adult and enable clients to deliver content directly to decision makers and those who matter most to them.
We are hiring a Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer in our New York City office.
About the Team:
The mission of the data infrastructure team at Applecart is to build secure, reliable, and cost-efficient infrastructure that powers Applecart’s data ecosystem. We design and operate the core data platforms that enable data engineers, analysts, and machine learning practitioners to deliver trusted insights and data products across Applecart.
Here are a few examples of what we work on:
- Enabling unified data governance capabilities for all Applecart’s data assets
- Scaling our compute and orchestration layer.
- Creating and scaling agents to enable engineers and users on their workflow and data needs
About the Role:
We’re looking for a seasoned engineer leader who combines deep hands-on expertise with broad strategic impact. In this role, you won’t just maintain our systems; you will help architect the evolution of our data backbone. You will be responsible for ensuring our data infrastructure scales ahead of the business’ needs while setting the technical standard and mentoring the engineers who build alongside you.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, and operate scalable data infrastructure that serves as the foundation for Applecart’s services.
- Own the roadmap for core data services (Apache Iceberg, EMR, Unity Catalog, Dagster, Snowflake) ensuring maximum uptime, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with Principal Architect to design self-service platforms that empower other teams to deploy and manage their own workflows without bottlenecks.
- Drive high-level initiatives in security, cost efficiency, and developer experience across the entire data organization.
- Define data reliability standards through advanced observability, proactive monitoring, and automated alerting.
- Set technical protocols and scale operational quality through proactive advocacy and documentation.
- Scale the team’s impact by mentoring junior/mid-level engineers and fostering a culture of high-standard, collaborative workflows.
Who You Are:
You are an experienced software engineer who is passionate about data infrastructure and eager to deepen your expertise in this space. You take initiative to experiment with new tools and approaches, building POCs to validate ideas before committing to implementation. You possess a growth mindset, taking pride in solving complex problems from inception to delivery while elevating team standards. You prioritize solutions that are both technically sound and commercially viable, working in lockstep with Product managers to ensure data infrastructure enables business goals.
Experiences and Capabilities You Bring:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably time spent supporting or leading data infrastructure initiatives.
- Deep understanding of data infrastructure reliability, scalability and observability principles.
- A strong sense of ownership and a drive to deliver high-impact, autonomous results autonomously.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and influence technical roadmaps.
- Hands-on experience architecting Data Lakehouse architecture and managing cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift).
- Experience with orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, etc) and distributed processing framework (EMR, Spark, Ray, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with Terraform or similar infrastructure as code tools to manage complex cloud environments.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL and Bash, with the ability to quickly adopt new languages like Go as the stack evolves.
- Deep familiarity with the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, version control, and rigorous code review standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
This is a hybrid role. Work from home on Monday and Friday and in Applecart’s New York City office Tuesday through Thursday.
Compensation:
Our compensation package consists of three components: (i) a base salary, (ii) annual cash bonus, and (iii) generous equity compensation.
The base salary range for this role is between $160,000 - $200,000 based on the candidate's experience and skills relative to the requirements listed above. The salary range provided is exclusive of discretionary annual cash bonus and equity compensation. The salary range provided for this role is specific to candidates located in the New York City area.
