Role Overview

As our Staff Software Engineer for Coupang, you will be responsible for designing and developing our advertising platform to support Coupang’s fast business growth.

Coupang is investing in building a world-class Advertising business where we run relevant ads across our website and Mobile App. We are building the next generation of products and services to fuel Coupang ad business’s future growth by providing self-service advertising capabilities to our Sellers and Suppliers. We are looking for passionate software engineers to build the big data pipeline and highly scalable online systems to power our advertisement products. You will be working on search, recommendation, and machine learning technologies and systems to power and enhance our advertisement products. You are responsible for developing low latency, highly available, large-scale services and systems and building APIs for programmatic integrations.

What You Will Do

Design, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure to ensure consistency and scalability.
Set up monitoring and logging systems to proactively detect and address potential issues, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Manage hundreds of Aurora/MySQL, DynamoDB, and Mongo/DocumentDB databases, including tuning for maximum performance, backups, disaster recovery strategies, and their active/passive counterparts in AWS.
Migrate Aurora MySQL to NewSQL
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including application team developers, infrastructure teams, TPM's to improve the overall database processes.
Assist in identifying and resolving operational issues and participating in on-call rotations.

Minimum Qualifications

6 years of relevant industry experience in database operations with a focus on building automation and maintaining scalable infrastructures around data.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

At least 10 years of expertise in database operations with a focus on building automation and maintaining scalable infrastructures around data.
At least 10 years of working directly with MySQL at a Senior level.
At least 5 years of experience working on NoSQL data stores such as DynamoDB, Cassandra.
At least 5 years of experience with developing tools and code for automation in Python.
Experience with NewSQL (TiDB, Spanner, Aurora DSQL)
At least 5 years of experience in leadership and communicating with the business.
At least 5 years of experience creating automation in multiple database technologies using modern software engineering practices in Python.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Solid understanding of AWS-based data management technologies.
Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform.
Understanding of CI/CD tools.
Understanding of networking concepts such as load balancing and DNS.
Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $297,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
