About the Job:
Software powers the world, and LaunchDarkly empowers teams to deliver and control it safely. As a Software Engineer on the Flag Delivery team, you will help build and operate the systems that stream feature-flag configuration to every connected LaunchDarkly SDK globally, in near real time. These systems run at high scale and have to stay reliable, low-latency, and correct; when they fail, customers lose control of their features.
You will own well-scoped projects from design through production, with senior engineers alongside you, on both the current delivery path and the next generation of the architecture. Technologies include Go, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog, but exact tool match matters less than strong fundamentals and a real appetite for learning how large systems behave.
Responsibilities:
- Build, ship, and operate features and services in Flag Delivery's streaming and polling infrastructure.
- Own well-scoped projects end to end: design, implementation, rollout, and the operational tail.
- Investigate and fix production issues, participating in the team's on-call rotation with support.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code and take part in code and design reviews.
- Improve the observability and reliability of the code you own.
- Collaborate with SDK Engineering, Data Platform, and product-engineering teams on work that crosses boundaries.
- Grow your depth in distributed systems and production operations with mentorship from senior engineers.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of professional software-engineering experience building production services.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python, Java, etc.) and familiarity with a cloud platform (AWS or equivalent).
- Solid fundamentals in data structures, concurrency, API design, and testing.
- Experience debugging real production problems and a willingness to carry an on-call rotation.
- Working familiarity with observability tooling and comfort reading dashboards, logs, and traces.
- Ability to break down an ambiguous task, ask good questions, and drive it to done.
- Clear written and verbal communication, and a genuine interest in learning from feedback.
Pay:
Target pay ranges based on Geographic Zones* for Level 3:
- Zone 1: San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle - $171,200 - $235,400**
- Zone 2: Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago - $154,100 - $211,860**
- Zone 3: All other US locations - $145,500 - $200,090 **
LaunchDarkly operates from a place of high trust and transparency; we are happy to state the pay range for our open roles to best align with your needs. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
*Within the United States, our geographic pay zones are defined by counties surrounding major metropolitan areas.
**Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, and dental insurance, and mental health benefits in addition to salary.
