With AI transforming the way we work, you’ll have the autonomy to explore and integrate cutting-edge solutions that help Roblox operate at 10x efficiency.
This is a new team at Roblox. We need someone who thrives with autonomy and ownership - a builder who can advocate for best development practices, seamlessly collaborate with other teams & external vendors, and work directly with Roblox Executives to drive meaningful impact.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be a pivotal leader, driving technical excellence and strategic innovation across our core operations. You will champion the development of high-impact internal products that empower our teams and shape the future of how we operate. In this role, you will report to a seasoned and tenured Engineering Manager in ROS.
You will:
- Define and pioneer technical roadmaps for complex internal products, collaborating closely with executive leadership across engineering, product, design, and people teams to innovate company-wide processes.
- Architect and lead the delivery of highly scalable and resilient systems, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic objectives and setting the bar for engineering best practices.
- Drive cross-functional technical alignment, acting as a key influencer to unify diverse teams around a shared technical vision and ensuring seamless execution of critical initiatives.
- Serve as a technical authority and mentor, guiding and uplifting senior engineers across a broad spectrum of technologies, from cutting-edge frontend to robust backend and intricate infrastructure challenges.
- Champion the adoption and integration of advanced AI/ML solutions, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, automate complex workflows, and unlock new business insights.
- Establish and propagate exemplary engineering standards, fostering a culture of technical rigor, quality, and future-proofing in all development efforts.
You have:
- 8+ years of deep, hands-on experience architecting, building, and deploying complex full-stack systems, encompassing sophisticated backend services, robust APIs, and highly interactive frontend applications.
- 5+ years of expertise in designing and implementing performant and scalable web, mobile, or cross-platform UI technologies, with extensive experience in modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
- Demonstrated mastery of modern cloud-native architectures, including expert-level proficiency with container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), infrastructure as code (Terraform), and/or major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform).
- 4+ years of proven experience leading and successfully delivering large-scale, cross-organizational technical initiatives with significant business impact.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Bonus points for experience with large-scale data processing, distributed systems, or the application of machine learning in production environments.
You are:
- A Strategic Innovator: You possess a rare blend of deep technical acumen and strategic foresight, consistently identifying and solving complex problems with novel, high-impact solutions. You're comfortable challenging the status quo and bringing in fresh, groundbreaking ideas.
- A Technical Visionary: You not only understand current technologies but anticipate future trends, particularly in AI, and are excited to explore and integrate emerging tools and approaches to create transformative products.
- An Exceptional Leader & Mentor: You inspire and empower engineering teams, fostering a collaborative environment where technical excellence and continuous learning thrive. You actively uplift your peers and contribute to making the entire organization stronger.
- User-Oriented: While operating at a principal level, you remain deeply grounded in user needs, whether for external customers or internal engineers, ensuring every technical solution delivers intuitive and impactful experiences.
